I’m getting ready to teach a new class, Handmade Books Using Recycled Materials, at the Palo Alto Art Center, Wednesdays 1-4 p.m., September 14 – October 12 (5 weeks) and you’re invited!
Chutes and Ladders Re-imagined and the blog post about making it: https://gingerburrell.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/chutes-and-ladders-re-imagined/
Here is the description of the class:
That pretty piece of wrapping paper that is too small to wrap anything, but too pretty to throw away; that vintage game board that is too cool to toss; those leftover scraps that you should be able to do “something” with… we’ve all got them. Learn to transform your favorite paper scraps and found/recycled objects into handmade books.
We’ll make a variety of handmade book structures using old board games, books, tins, favorite paper and fabric scraps, and recycled items such as cereal and Kleenex boxes. Our goal for this class is to purchase as few supplies as necessary (you may need to purchase a few tools) and leave with several handmade books that have been glued, sewn and folded. You’ll receive written instructions for each binding and leave with inspiration for transforming everyday recyclables into works of art!
